"Unrequited Love"

“Unrequited Love”

A few weeks ago when I was editing my "Rose" blog, the realization hit my mind; Jesus suffers daily from unrequited love.  I had not returned my Savior’s love for me, back to Him for years.  It never really dawned on me, He wanted it back.  I never thought He wanted much more from me besides attending church more often.

Time after time I called for His help. But only after everyone and everything else failed me.  I never went to Him first.  Jesus hung on a cross for excruciating hours for people like me and worse.  Even at Calvary, people jeered and cursed at Him.

What do You see in us, Lord? Your own creation failing, to fully appreciate and love You back?  You see the infant in the womb, the baby in the crib, the child stumbling along the way.  You see our imperfect parents struggling to lead us sometimes on the right path, but sometimes in the wrong way.

You see through our shortcomings, and our many failures, knowing we could be so much happier and better with You leading us.  But time and time again, we don’t listen.  We turn our eyes away from You, to something we feel is more appealing, something else to fill the void.  We feel You knocking on the door of our hearts.  No answer, no one’s home, you are ignored.    You must see us as a father watching his child wander into oncoming traffic. We turn a deaf ear to You, You watch us become lost in the darkness. You must feel the pain of losing Your child to evil.  That's unfathomable to us, Lord.

Unrequited love, You stay, we run.  We have to get so far down, so alone, hopeless, and so hurt.  Oh, we hurt so badly, and there You are, waiting for us.

I am so sorry I ignored You all those years and turned a deaf ear to Your calling.  I am so thankful You still even want me in Your flock.  It will take the rest of my life to make it up to You, however long or short I have on this earth still.

So long ago, I just didn't know, I never thought I could fall in love with our Savior, my Savior.  I never dreamed I could have a personal relationship with ….You.  Jesus, You made it come true. The great "I Am," and now I am in love with You.
